After a year hiatus from chickens on the farm (this was after 50+ years of laying hens!), we welcomed three hens last week (Ameraucana and two Ameraucana crosses), and added three more this week (Ameraucana X Rhode Island, and two Rhode Islands). Ameraucana’s possess the blue egg gene and are referred to as Easter Eggers. That’s right, we get blue eggs!
Right now we’re debating whether we clip a few wings; this discussion arising after an evening of trying to get a hen out of an apple tree.
Collecting eggs has always been a highlight for children staying here on the farm and we’re excited to be able to offer that opportunity again!
